Wine production circumscribed the San Francisco Bay early on, including
all of the counties surrounding the bay: San Francisco, San Mateo, Santa Cruz, Santa Clara, Alameda, Contra Costa, Solano, and Marin Counties. Wine production continues in most of these areas today.
Many notable wine makers operated here, including Arpad Harazsthy, Charles LeFranc, Charles Wetmore, Paul Masson and Theodore Gier. Some of these bay area producers had ventures further afield in the counties of Napa, Sonoma, Yolo, San Joaquin and beyond.
